Nurturing young minds through music

Welcome to Nurtune, founded by Janessa. A local mom in Clayton, North Carolina!

We believe in the power of music to foster development from the earliest stages.

Discover our unique programs designed to inspire a lifelong love for music in your child.

Our developmental music programs

Nurtune offers a comprehensive 9-week curriculum across five age tiers, from "Roots" to "Orchard." Our classes focus on essential musical concepts like pitch control, beats, and scales, going beyond standard sing-alongs to provide a rich educational experience.

Mission

Our mission is to nurture the vital bond between parent and child while tuning young ears to the foundational elements of music—pitch, rhythm, and scale.

Values

1. Harmony in Connection

We believe music is the ultimate bridge. At Nurtune, the most important "instrument" in the room is the bond between parent and child. We prioritize moments of eye contact, touch, and shared laughter over "perfect" performance.

2. Rooted in Growth

Development isn't a race; it's a season. We celebrate every musical milestone—whether it’s a baby’s first rhythmic sway, a toddler’s first matched pitch, or a preschooler’s first scale—knowing that these tiny seeds are growing into a lifetime of confidence.

3. Musical Intentionality

We believe tiny ears are capable of big things. While our classes are fun, they are never "just play." We are intentional about teaching the foundations of pitch, rhythm, and scales, providing a high-quality musical education from day one.

4. Nurturing Safety

A healthy sprout needs a clean environment. We are committed to maintaining a studio that is physically safe (hygienic and sanitized) and emotionally safe—a "no-judgment zone" where parents and children feel free to explore, make mistakes, and be themselves.

5. The Joy of Play

Play is the "work" of childhood. We lean into the silliness, the movement, and the imagination. If we aren't having fun, we aren't doing it right! We believe the most profound learning happens when we are laughing and moving together.

The Three Pillars of Nurtune

To support that mission, we break it down into these actionable goals for every class:

  1. Nurture the Bond: Creating a safe, joyous space for parents and children to connect through shared play.

  2. Tune the Ear: Building a foundation for pitch control, scales, and rhythmic accuracy.

  3. Grow the Child: Using music as a tool to reach developmental milestones in motor skills, language, and social coordination.

Janessa Ozaeta-Carbonel

Founder & Music Instructor

"Where words fail, music speaks."

As a mother of two—a busy toddler and a growing baby—I know firsthand how music serves as the heartbeat of a home. Long before I was a "mom," I was a musician. Performance has been the pulse of my life for as long as I can remember, and my journey eventually led me to earn my Associate’s Degree in Music from Monterey Peninsula College.

Playing multiple instruments and performing throughout my life taught me that music isn't just a skill—it's a primary language. I founded Nurtune because I wanted to create a space where children aren’t just "learning songs," but are becoming fluent in the language of sound.

I understand the joy of watching a child discover their voice and the importance of finding a community that feels like home. Whether we are exploring the steady beat in our Lil Roots class or perfecting pitch in the Orchard, my mission is to nurture the music that already lives inside your child.

I can’t wait to play, sing, and grow with your family!
